Nel 1922 entra al Goskino (dove stringe amicizia con Vertov) come curatrice delle edizioni russe dei film stranieri; rimane esemplare per i giovani colleghi che ne seguono il lavoro la ricostruzione in montaggio di Il dottor Mabuse (1922) di F. Lang. Co-sceneggia con Eisenstein Sciopero (1925) e La corazzata Potëmkin (1926), nel 1927 realizza il primo dei tre documentari di montaggio che costituiscono la sua trilogia sulla recente storia sovietica, La caduta della dinastia dei Romanov. Nel 1938 realizza un’altra grande opera cinematografica di impatto civile, sociale e politico: Ispanjia (Spagna, 1938), un montaggio di riprese di R.L. Karmen e B.R.
