Synopsis in German
Eigentlich ist der berühmte belgische Meisterdetektiv Hercule Poirot nur nach London gefahren, um seinen Massschneider aufzusuchen. Doch bald sieht er sich veranlasst, seine legendären "grauen Zellen" zu bemühen. In der Stadt geht ein Mörder um, der seine Opfer offenbar nach dem Alphabet ausgewählt. Bei seinen Recherchen stolpert Poirot über einen ominösen dicken Mann, der sich alsbald als der britische Geheimdienstler Major Hastings entpuppt. Er soll auf Poirot aufpassen, sorgt jedoch hauptsächlich für Pannen. Unglück scheint Poirot auch die geheimnisvolle Amanda Beatrice Cross zu bringen, die mehrfach dafür sorgt, dass der Detektiv als Sittenstrolch verhaftet wird. Von ihrem Psychiater Doncaster erfährt Poirot, dass Amanda unter Schizophrenie und Verfolgungswahn leidet. Ist sie das Werkzeug des raffinierten ABC-Mörders?... (BR Presse)

Nur auf den ersten Blick scheint der schlanke amerikanische Komiker Tony Randall (1920 - 2004) ganz gegen den Strich besetzt zu sein, der sich mit dem gewichtigen Engländer Robert Morley als Major Hastings ein hinreissendes Duell liefert.
