Francesca Bertini was born under the given name Elena Seracini Vitiello on April 11, 1888 in Firenze. She was an Italian Actress, known for Novecento (1974), Cabiria (1914), Tosca (1918), Francesca Bertini's first movie on record is from 1908. She was married to Alfred Cartier (1921-1959). Francesca Bertini died on October 13, 1985 in Roma. Her last motion picture on file dates from 1999.

Biographical Notes
Francesca Bertini war zu ihrer Zeit eine Berühmtheit. Sie spielte in relativ kurzer Zeit in über 90 Filmen, zu den bekanntesten zählen "Assunta Spina" (1915, Regie: Gustavo Serena), "La donna nuda" (1918, Regie: Roberto Roberti) und "Die sieben Todsünden" (1919, sieben Episoden von unterschiedlichen Regisseuren). In den 20er Jahren zog sie sich weit gehend vom Film zurück und übernahm nur noch gelegentlich Rollen, so 1976 in Bernardo Bertoluccis "1900 - Gewalt, Macht, Leidenschaft". Zwei Dokumentarfilme beschäftigen sich mit ihrem Leben und ihrem Schaffen: Gianfranco Mingozzis "L'ultima diva: Francesca Bertini" (1982) und Peter Delpeut's "Diva Dolorosa" (1999), in dem auch ihre zeitgenössischen Konkurrentinnen Borelli und Menichelli porträtiert werden.
