(Nach anderen Quellen am 12. Mai 1907 geboren) - Tochter eines berühmten Arztes, wuchs Katharine als zweites von sechs Geschwistern auf. Erste Theatererfahrungen während ihrer Schulzeit. Nach Engagements am Broadway Filmrollen in Hollwood - bereits für ihren dritten Film erhielt die unangepasste Schauspielerin ihren ersten Oscar.

Eine lebenslange Freundschaft verband Katharine Hepburn mit Spencer Tracy, als dessen ideale Filmpartnerin sie galt. Drei weitere Oscars erhielt sie, dazu weitere 12 Nominierungen.

Katharine starb nach langer Krankheit an Alzheimer im Kreise ihrer Familie im Alter von 96 Jahren.
