Henny Porten was born on January 7, 1890 in Magdeburg. She was a German Actress, known for Absender unbekannt (1949), Komödianten (1941), Wenn der junge Wein blüht (1943), Henny Porten's first movie on record is from 1906. Henny Porten died on October 15, 1960 in Berlin. Her last motion picture on file dates from 1958.
Biographical Notes in German: Nach anderen Quellen am 7. April 1888 geboren, Tochter des Opernsängers und Filmregisseurs Franz Porten, Schwester von Rosa Porten. Keine schauspielerische Ausbildung. Theater am Kurfürstendamm Berlin, Theater-Tourneen. 1903-07 in Schweden. Aus den Jahren 1908 bis 1910 werden etwa fünfundzwanzig Tonbilder genannt, meist von ihrem Vater Franz Porten inszeniert, die zum Teil nicht mehr nachgewiesen werden können.
1910 in einem festen Engagement bei Oskar Messter, ihrem Entdecker, engagiert und von ihm zum ersten deutschen Filmstar gemacht. Bei Messter spielt sie unter anderem auch in dreidimensionalen "Alabastra"-Filmen mit, die heute verschollen sind. Gründet ihre eigene Filmgesellschaft, die 1924 zur Henny - Porten - Carl - Froelich - Filmgesellschaft wird.
In erster Ehe mit dem Regisseur Kurt Stark (+ 1916 an der Front) verheiratet, in zweiter Ehe mit dem Arzt Wilhelm von Kaufmann verheiratet. In der Zeit des Dritten Reiches wird sie wegen ihrer Ehe mit einem Juden nicht mehr beschäftigt. Nach 1945 erhält sie vom westdeutschen Film keine Angebote mehr, einzig eine Nebenrolle in Akos von Rathonys ABSENDER UNBEKANNT. Ihre letzten Rollen waren die Angebote der DEFA 1954 in CAROLA LAMBERTI und DAS FRÄULEIN VON SCUDERI.
kurz vor ihrem Tode erhält Henny Porten im Mai 1960 das Bundesverdienstkreuz. Das Kino der BRD hatte den ersten grossen Filmstar des Deutschen Films völlig ignoriert. (lhg)
