Biographical Notes in German: Burt Kennedy - Jahrgang 1923 - ist ein ausgesprochener Westernspezialist. Seine Karriere begann er nach Ende seines Militärdienstes im Zweiten Weltkrieg als Autor von Westernkomödien für das Radio. Später wechselte er zum Fernsehen, für das er Westernshows schrieb. Mitte der 50er Jahre kam er nach Hollywood und war als Drehbuchautor für Budd Boetticher und andere Westernregisseure erfolgreich. Sein Regiedebüt gab er 1961 mit dem Western "Die rote Schwadron" - ein Film, über den nicht nur seine Kritiker, sondern vor allem er selbst überaus unglücklich waren. Doch mit den beiden Filmen "Der Wilde von Montana" (1963) und "Nebraska" (1964) hatte er seinen eigenen originellen Western-Stil gefunden, meist geprägt von einem komödiantischen, humorvollen Element bis hin zur Lust, das eigene Genre zu ironisieren und zu parodieren. Die schönsten Beispiele dafür sind seine Star-Produktionen "Die Gewaltigen" (1966) mit John Wayne und Kirk Douglas oder die beiden köstlichen James-Garner-Filme "Auch ein Sheriff braucht mal Hilfe" (1968) und "Latigo" (1970).
