Emil Jannings was born on July 26, 1884 in Rorschach, Schweiz. He was a German Actor, known for Altes Herz wird wieder jung (1943), Les aventures du roi Pausole (1933), Der letzte Mann (1924), Emil Jannings's first movie on record is from 1914. Emil Jannings died on January 2, 1950 in Wolfgangsee, Österreich. His last motion picture on file dates from 1958.
Biographical Notes in German: Einer der bedeutendsten Schauspieler des deutschen Stummfilms. Nach anderen Quellen 1886 in New York geboren. Sohn eines Amerikaners und einer in Moskau geborenen Deutschen, Klassische Studien in Zürichund Görlitz, dann abenteuerliches Leben, das ihn um die ganze Welt führt. 1914 durch Max Reinhardt nach Berlin. Besonders durch Filme von Lubitsch und Murnau ("Der letzte Mann", "Faust") wird Jannings über Deutschland hinaus bekannt und er erhält Angebote aus Hollywood. Für "The Last Command" und "The Patriot" erhält Jannings den Oscar als bester Schauspieler. Nach Deutschland zurückgekehrt spielt er die Rolle des Professor Unrath in "Der Blaue Engel". In den 30er Jahren vor allem auch in historischen Filmen des NS-Regimes. Nach dem 2. Weltkrieg zurückgezogen im Salzkammergut, wo er im Januar 1950 starb.
In erster Ehe mit Lucie Höflich, in 2. mit Hanna Ralph, in 3. Ehe mit Gussy Holm 1922 verheiratet.
