Andrzej Wajda was born on March 6, 1926 in Suwalki, Polen. He was a Polish Director, Author, known for L' Amour à 20 ans (1962), Korczak (1990), Czlowiek z zelaza (1981), Andrzej Wajda's first movie on record is from 1953. Andrzej Wajda died on October 9, 2016 in Warszawa. His last motion picture on file dates from 2009.
Biographical Notes in German: studierte Malerei und Filmregie in Krakau und Lodz. 1954 debütierte er als Regisseur mit dem Film "Eine Generation", der mit "Kanal" (1957, Regiepreis in Cannes) und "Asche und Diamant" (1958, preigekrönt 1959 in Venedig) eine berühmte Trilogie bildete, die Wajdas Ruf und den der polnischen Filmschule begründete. 1959 begann Wajda mit Theaterinszenierungen in Danzig, Kraku und Warschau. Zu seinen ständigen Schauspielern gehörte der von ihm bereits für "Eine Generation" entdeckte und seit "Asche und Diamant" unvergessliche Zbigniew Cybulski. Als Cybulski 1967 tödlich verunglückte, drehte Wajda als Hommage an ihn den Film "Alles zu verkaufen", in dem der junge Daniel Olbrychski die Rolle Cybulskis spielte. Olbrychski trat die Nachfolge Cybulskis in weiteren Filmen Wajdas und anderen polnischen Regisseuren an. Wajdas im Westen am meisten diskutierter Film nach "Asche und Diamant" war zweifellos "Der Mann aus Marmor", den er endlich, nach 13 Jahren Wartezeit, 1976 drehen konnte. Er fand 1981 eine aktuelle Fortsetzung mit "Der Mann aus Eisen", in dem Wajda die Ereignisse schiderte, die zur Gründung der "Solidarität" führten. (RTL-2 Presseheft)
