Biographical Notes in German: eigentlich Oscar "Budd" Boetticher Jr, Regisseur des amerikanischen Kinos, der sich vor allem durch eine Reihe von B-Western mit Randolph Scott in der Hauptrolle (und als Co-Produzent) einen Namen gemacht hatte.

In seiner Jugendzeit Stierkämpfer in Mexiko, kam Boetticher als "Technical Advisor" für die Stierkampf-Szenen in Rouben Mamoulians "Blood and Sand" zum Film. Nach mehreren Filmen als Regieassistent und einigen Kurzfilmen drehte Boetticher Ende der Vierziger Jahre seine ersten Spielfilme. Neben einigen Kriminal- und Gangsterfilmen wurde der Western sein Genre. Zusammen mit Randolph Scott und Produzent Harry Joe Brown drehte Boetticher die legendären Filme wie The Tall T (1957), Decision At Sundown (1957), Buchanan Rides Alone (1958), Ride Lonesome (1959), and Comanche Station (1960).

John Wayne war Produzent zweier wichtiger Filme von Boetticher, "Seven Men from Now" und "Bullighter and the Lady", und beide Filme waren lange Zeit nicht zu sehen: Trotz seines Erfolgs bei Kritik und an der Kasse wurde "Seven Men from Now" durch John Wayne zurückgezogen und blieb mehr als 30 Jahre unter Verschluss, erst 2000 wurde der Film dank John Waynes Sohn Michael von der UCLA restauriert und wieder zugänglich gemacht. "Bullfighter and the Lady" wurde 1951 durch John Wayne und John Ford von 124 Minuten auf 87 Minuten radikal gekürzt, ein grosser Teil der Szenen in der Arena wurden geschnitten und die meisten Szenen zwischen Gilbert Roland und Robert Stack fielen der Schere zum Opfer. Erst 1986 wurde die Originalversion durch die UCLA restauriert.

Boettichers Lieblingsthema blieb zeitlebens der Stierkampf, dem er mit "Bullfighter and the Lady" sowie seinem Spätwerk "Aruza!" ein unvergessliche Filme widmete. (lhg 2010)
